I was sitting at my desk trying to remember why I sat down in the first place. Then it hit me. I have no idea! I find this happening more and more as the years fly by. And they do seem to go by faster each year.
Remember when you were a kid? Christmas too FOREVER to come around, birthdays were just as bad. The upside was summer also seem to last forever, in a good way. Sigh! Now I try to pretend I don't have birthdays anymore.
And what's up with those snotty little kids running all the businesses these days? Do I LOOK like I need a Senior Citizens discount? Don't answer that!
Anyway, this started me ruminating on the idea of getting older and the advantage of being the age I am now. No, I won't tell. Let's just say when the Beatles were young, I was younger and leave it at that.
So, this got me thinking: Can I list 10 reasons why this age is better? Or at least funnier. Here goes:
1. Saving a ton of money on gym memberships since I get all the exercise I need
retracing my steps by going back for the thing I forgot I went for in the first place.
2. Not retracing my steps and still I can't remember what I was doing in the first place.
3. Always meeting new people since I can't remember who they are.
4. Finally being able to speak my mind since I no longer care what everyone else thinks.
5. Believing with age comes wisdom and anyone cares what I have to say.
6. Needing a seeing-eye dog to find my glasses.
7. Having my husband scratch the dog's head first in greeting; then doing the same to me. Sometimes I lick his hand just to confuse him.
8. Thinking I don't look old enough for a senior citizen discount.
9. Getting it anyway.
10. Referring to ourselves as our pets' 'Mommy' and 'Daddy'.
11. Grandchildren. We can regale our grandchildren with stories of how 'ornery' their parents were, and then send them home.
12. Grandchildren. We get to spoil them and then send them home.
13. Grandchildren. We get to teach them to bake, cook, play a game, and then send them home.
14. Grandchildren. We get to cuddle up and tell them stories, and then send them home. They like the ones I make up best.
15. Grandchildren and birthdays and holidays.
You get the picture. I guess the best thing about this age is finally getting lots of grandchildren and I'm loving every minute I get to spend with them.
